What James Melville Jones Scholarship?

In 1972, Rotarian Jimmy Jones died while serving as a fireman on a large forest fire. The award was then named, The James Melville Jones Scholarship in his honor.

Deprina Squires — Duprina is the daughter of Harold and Barbara Squires of Maysville. Deprina will be graduating from Jones Senior High School and will start her college education at Craven Community College. Her future plans are to earn a degree in Pharmacology.

Jessica Myers — Jessica is the daughter of Melvin and Lisa Moore of Maysville. Jessica is a Jones Senior High student and will be enrolling in Western Carolina this fall. She will be studying for a degree in secondary education.

Ashley Thomas — Ashley is the daughter of James M. Thomas and the late Denise Thomas of Maysville. A soon to be graduate of Jones Senior High, Ashley will be walking the halls of Coastal Carolina Community College this fall. She will be studying for a Business Administration degree.

Portia Smith — Portia is the daughter of Elywanda Smith of Maysville. Portia is a Jones Senior High student but will be a freshman at UNC-Greensboro this fall. She plans to major in Psychology.

Justin Jones — Justin is the son of Darrell and Wanda Jones of Maysville. Justin will graduate from White Oak High School and plans to attend Coastal Carolina Community College and then East Carolina University where he will study Construction Management.
