The Rotary Club of Maysville was charted in 1947 with 15 charter members. It has enjoyed a rich history of community service since that time. Mother club to Pollocksville, Jacksonville, and Swansboro, the members understand the importance of establishing new clubs and providing support to new members.
The average age of our club membership is 59 years with only one charter member remaining. At present we have 16 members and our membership fluctuates between 15-19 members. Our greatest challenge with membership is attributed to the lack of business professionals in our area and the lack of public relations efforts. The major focus this year will be to increase membership and increase public relations efforts. It is our believe that many would be more interested in joining Rotary if they were aware of what Rotary stands for locally and internationally. We plan to have a membership drive in the early fall looking throughout Jones County and not just the Maysville area. Additionally, a member challenge was issued to bring one guest/prospective member to the District Governor's visit in September.
Our public relations efforts must include many venues of publicity. We intend to provide a newsletter, web page, newspaper articles, and T.V. coverage during special events and fundraisers. Our annual fundraisers have been a reverse drawing in the spring and a raffle during the Christmas season. The possibility of a golf tournament is being explored.
Our levels of community service, locally and globally, are evident in the many projects in which we are engaged. The four areas of service, as detailed by Rotary International, are the guidelines we follow when selecting service projects. Outlined below are examples of the many projects in which we have participated in and initiated.
